2 weeks

I can’t believe that Kelby turned 2 weeks old this past weekend. She is doing great!! We had her 2 week check up yesterday and she is now 10lbs 2.5oz. She only grew a 1/4in in length. John and I are having so much fun being parents and love every minute of it. Kelby is already holding her head up and turning it. She never really wanted to be swaddled because she loves to stretch so much. If you think about it she didn’t really have much room the past 9 ½ months so stretching is a new world to her. One good thing about having almost a 10lb baby is that I have lost over 35lbs in 2 weeks… Crazy!!! Everyone tells you how great you feel after you have the baby and in my case I feel wonderful!!! I was so swollen at the end of my pregnancy and for a few days after that it didn’t take much to make me feel better. As much as I love to kiss her, hold her and smell her I still miss her not being in my tummy. John and I are so blessed to have such a sweet baby girl.

Kelby has had her good and bad days as far as her sleeping habits at night time but the past two nights have been wonderful. Last night she slept for 7 hours and the night before she slept for 6 ½ hours. She is such a good baby!!! She only cries when she is hungry. She loves to lie in her crib and watch her mobile and when we are in our bedroom or the living room she loves to watch the ceiling fans. Her daddy introduced her to a pacifier this week and she loved it!!!!!

Sampson loves baby Kelby and is adjusting well!! Even though she is not sleeping in her room at night yet, Sampson is. If he is not halfway under the crib then he is at least right next to it. He always has to check on her when she is making noises and when we hand her off to anyone.

Our little girl has arrived!!!

Kelby Lynn Burrows arrived on Sunday September 13, 2009 (MY BIRTHDAY!!) at 4:12pm and she weighed 9 lbs and 13 oz.

I woke up on Sunday morning at around 6am to roll over and when I rolled over my water broke. It was so crazy!! I woke John up and he came running to my side. We took showers and packed our bags and off to the hospital we went. We arrived at the hospital at around 7am and they confirmed that my water had broke. I was only dilated to 1-2cm the first time they checked me so I was thinking this is going to be a long day. At around 8am they moved us from Maternal Observation to Labor and Delivery and at this point my contractions were about 3-5 minutes apart they were definitely different from any contractions I had felt. I decided to start walking around for 30 minutes at a time and take a 10 minute brake in between so they could monitor us. By 10am my contractions were about 2 ½ minutes apart and getting stronger when they checked at 12pm I was dilated to 5 cm. By this point it was becoming extremely painful when walking up and down the halls. I am so fortunate to have had my wonderful husband by my side during this time. He could see the pain and asked that I go ahead and get an epidural. The most difficult thing about getting the epidural was having contractions every 1 ½ minutes and trying to sit still. After I had the epidural the time just flew by. By 2 pm I was dilated to 9-10 cm. At that point the doctor wanted to give Kelby just a bit longer to try and drop past the +1 she was already at. By 3pm they checked me and we started pushing at about 3:15. Before I knew it our baby girl was in my arms. When they pulled her out the doctor and the nurses could not believe how big she was. She was the most precious little girl we had ever seen!!! She was very healthy and very alert.

We are so grateful for our little baby girl. We can’t describe to anyone the amount of joy and love she brings to us. We are so in love. We want to also thank all of our friends and family for all of their love and support.

37 weeks 5 days

John took these pictures at more of a back angle compared to last week so the side picture doesn't really show how large my belly really is but you get the idea.

Doctor Update

It has been a long week since I last updated but it seems to be getting better. I had a couple of days last week with strong contractions but nothing came of them. My feet have quit swelling which has made a huge difference and I am finally beginning to get some sleep at night for the past two nights. I was able to go for a walk with John and Sampson last night and wear my tennis shoes!! This may not sound like a huge deal but I have not been able to wear tennis shoes in months because my feet have been so swollen. The funny thing is that my belly is so big now that John has to put my shoes and socks on me and my feet sure were snug in my size 11 shoes. I have heard that your feet grow half a size when you’re pregnant… Yikes!!!! I don’t need my feet to grow anymore.

We had a doctor’s appointment yesterday and everything is looking great. My cervix has made progress since last week and my blood pressure is still good and I actually lost 6lbs. My doctor has been very happy with my weight gain, “knock on wood” we have not seen any stretch marks on my belly at this point, but it’s not over yet. The doctor said that my feet quit swelling because Kelby is no longer sitting on what was causing the swelling. My belly has had another growth spurt since last week and is measuring bigger than it should which means Kelby had a growth spurt. We go back to the doctor on Monday for an ultrasound so they can measure her and the doctor will decide when to induce if Kelby doesn’t come before then, which means we could be meeting our sweet little girl next week!!

36 Weeks 5 Days

We had a false alarm last Friday. I was having contractions every 2 ½ - 3 minutes that were a lot stronger than normal. We went to the hospital and my Doctor said that I just contact a lot. I was still only dilated to 1 cm. I asked her if she thought it would be like this for the next 4 weeks and she said she wouldn’t let me go that long.

I had a Doctor’s appointment this past Monday and not much has changed but all is well to report. Kelby’s head has definitely dropped and is getting ready!! It is amazing to feel how much my uterus has dropped from the top of my belly. We are so excited to meet our little baby!! She will come when she is ready though. It has been a tough couple of weeks. My legs and feet are still swelling due to all of the fluid and not to mention my belly keeps getting bigger and bigger. I have been off work now for weeks and my doctor says I need to take it even more easy now. Anyone who knows me knows that I don't lay around very well. My feet get so bad that John says it looks like I have broken every bone in my foot. When I see strangers in public they all say “oh honey you aren’t going to last another week”… well guess what… people have been telling me that for the past 3 weeks. I haven’t had a good not sleep in weeks. I actually slept for 2 ½ consecutive hours last night. I get up to go to the bathroom at the least 4x’s a night and have contractions everytime I roll over or get up. Thanks for listening to me vent :). I know everything I have been feeling is well worth it!!!!!! I just can’t wait to hold and meet her!!!!!!!!!!!
